Hiking the Ice Age Trail

One of Wisconsin's unique natural features is an over 1000 mile long terminus, or bottom edge, of a glacier. And along that terminus is the Ice Age Trail.  This trail, one of only 11 National Scenic Trails in the United States, crosses the entire state and has natural beauty that can only be found where the ancient ice left its mark.

Over 1 million visitors hike on the trail each year. Some have even completed the entire route! To date only 600 miles of the trail are marked with yellow Ice Age Trail signs, with the connecting parts usually following county roads and unmarked.  The trail crosses State and County lands as well as private lands. It is a hiking trail only, except where it crosses an existing bike path.

For more information about the Ice Age Trail, it's history, trail maps, events, volunteering to keep up the trail and much more visit The Ice Age Trail Alliance.
