Free Winter Fishing Weekend

Grab your rod and reel and winter coat, it's time for ice fishing.

Wisconsin will be having it's first Free Winter Fishing Weekend January 19th and 20th.  No license required for residents or visitors. Size and number of fish rules still apply.

Don't have your own ice fishing gear?  The Wisconsn DNR will have loaner gear available at several locations across Wisconsin.

Easy Way to find Outdoor Fun

Visiting a State Park is a great way to enjoy the outdoors. And each park has different amenities and activities for you to enjoy.  So how do you choose where to go?

Now it's easy!  Just head to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources website and go to the "Explore Outdoors" page.  Here you find a searchable database of parks, activities, amenities and events. Search by County, by distance from a City, by a Park or Trail name, or by activity.  Then head out for some great outdoors fun.

State Park Open House Day

Volunteer at Wisconsin State Parks Earth Day Events

Looking for an activity to help you celebrate Earth Day?  The Friends of Wisconsin State Parks are hosting Work*Play*Earth Day 2012 events at parks across the state.

Volunteers can join in the with Department of Natural Resources staff members to plant trees and shrubs, remove invasive plants, clear up leaves and pine needles, install benches, paint picnic tables and pick up litter.

Here are dates and locations for this event:

April 14th at Stower Seven Lakes State Trail in Amery.

April 21st at Kohler-Andrae State Park in Sheboygan, Harrington Beach State Park in Belgium, Havenwoods State Forest in Milwaukee, Mirror Lake State Park in Baraboo and Big Foot Beach State Park in Lake Geneva.

April 27th at Peninsula State Park in Fish Creek.

April 28th at Lapham Peak State Park in Delafield, High Cliff State Park in Sherwood, Perrot State Park in Trempealeau, Kettle Moraine State Forest-Northern Unit in Campbellsport, Devils Lake State Park in Baraboo, Wyalusing State Park in Bagley and Mead Wildlife Area in Milladore.

May 5th at Hartman Creek State Park in Waupaca, Roche-A-Cri State Park in Friendship, Pike Lake State Forest in Hartford and Whitefish Dunes State Park in Sturgeon Bay.

Bring Your Antlers

That's right, bring your antlers and get scored and win prizes! Check out the Antler Expo and Sport Show this weekend at the Forts Folle Avione Historical Park in Danbury.

March 31st and April 1st from 10AM to 4PM you can take your antlers to be scored and displayed. No antlers...try out the Bird Sporting Clay Shoot or the 3D Archery Shoot. There will also be seminars by the Wisconsin DNR, the Ice Age Trail, the National Park Service, and lots of vendors for you to check out.

Bald Eagle Watching

Did you know there are bald eagles in Wisconsin?  If you enjoy seeing these majestic birds in their natural habitat check out the 25th Bald Eagle Watching Days January 13th and 14th in Prairie du Sac. 

Friday events begin at 7PM with a live birds of prey show by the Raptor Center from the University of Minnesota at the Sauk Prairie High School.  Saturday will feature a release of a rehabilitated eagle by the Raptor Education Group.
